martin luther king jr
At age six when he started school
his two best childhood friends were
no longer allowed to play with him
because he was black.  This left a
lasting impression that stayed with
him all his life.

In high school, Martin entered an
oratorial contest and won by
demonstrating his extraordinary
ability to connect with people.
Unfortunately, on the way home
from the competition, he still had
to stand up on the bus because he
was not allowed to sit in the white
section.  But he had a vision and a
sense he could make a difference
and was never confrontational and
did not believe violence would solve
anything.

MLK studied hard to earn degrees
from Morehouse College and Boston
University.  He emerged as the
leader of a civil rights movement
based on non-violent resistance.

MLK ultimately helped draft the
Civil Rights Bill and was awarded
the Nobel Peace Prize.  Time
magazine named him “Man of the
Year”.  He delivered his famous “I
have a dream” speech from the
steps of the Lincoln Memorial. His
peaceful yet determined dream
changed the world.
